EAT Newcastle Festival

Wow! how exciting is this? EAT looks like its going to be a fabulous food festival, including
a beer and chilli festival
a whisky festival
a wine festival
& a cupcake festival!
well really! the only unfortunate this is, I've missed the opportunity to be part of the cakebook flash mob picnic, in which you bake a famous landmark of Newcastle or Gateshead- the Get Carter car park was what I wanted.

Bento for Friday

Any Friday bentos have to be rather special, otherwise i would give in to the joy of Dene's Deli special sandwich Friday. I think this bento will help me resist! It contains baby courgettes, egg foo yung and rice, coleslaw, a scotch egg, some olives and a mini cheese. I've made a little cheese daffodil on top of the egg foo yung to bring some spring cheer to my Friday.
Incidentally, I had a good time making this bento and listening to the debate on Radio Four... mmm Bento and Politics!

Bento for Thursday

mmmm, an interesting little bento for tomorrow's lunch, although it is a little bit too yellow coloured! This one contains squash salad, pasta sausage salad, home made fried king prawns, some Japanese crackers, a scotch egg, and some pimento olive skewers. I'm looking forward to eating it tomorrow, but i do think it could have done with being a bit more colourful!

Bento for Wednesday

First lunch in my new bento, and it was very yummy. It contained leftover homemade thai curry with prawns and udon noodles (very comforting), with cheese and nori omelette rolls, then my sweet treats were one of my peanut butter cupcakes and some dried fruit, with a yoghurt tube. I was stuffed after i ate this lunch!

New Bento!

Introducing my new (very pink) (very large) bento! It has two compartments and isn't as big as it looks on the outside, as it is insulated. I figured a new box was in order to celebrate the creation of my blog. here's to filling it!

Inspiration

This morning as i walked to work, the cows were on the town moor. They walked along with me at the same pace as me, which was nice! Also, the daffodils are out in force... I feel some bento inspiration happening...

Baking Sunday

I've also been busy this morning baking a batch of cupcakes-these are chocolate peanut butter cupcakes which I've never made before. They are plain chocolate cupcakes with a topping made of cream cheese, butter, and peanut butter. They should of course be topped with chocolate peanuts but of course I forgot to buy them at the shop:(
as for this afternoon, i'm excited because after a trip to the cinema we are going for tea at one of my favourite restaurants- Nudo Noodle House. So it's going to be lovely spicy edamame beans, sushi and soup noodles for me.

Bento for Monday

This bento contains some sea vegetable salad which i've never tried before, and some lovely sushi that i made this morning. It's ham, spring onion and Primula spring onion cheese- very tasty. My crispbread face didn't turn out so good as the crispbread were all broken. still it should cheer me up a bit when i munch my lunch tomorrow.

My bento boxes

I only have three bento boxes at the moment. My favourite is the frog, mostly because of the circumstances in which i bought it. we'd hunted around Toronto for boxes and couldn't find any, then jusr when i'd given up, I found this little guy in the gift shop of the Royal Ontario Museum. I probably paid over the odds for him but i was so excited to have found one! The blue one I bought for my husband, but i'll use it occasionally as i like the size of it- I think the pink one is a bit too big and it's hard to find things to pack into it.

Retrospective Cake Blog

So I thought I had better put a picture of something on here t start off with. This was the cake I made for my friend Vince at work, and I was quite pleased with how it came out. I was also chuffed that it still tasted ok after having been sat in a desk drawer for a week and a half!

Hello!

welcome to my blog, which is going to be about my bento adventures and will also no doubt include a lot of cakeage. i love baking and cake decorating and have recently discovered the amazing world of bento boxes.
